Mike Sloan is a seasoned legal executive with experience as General Counsel of an international venture capital firm, former BigLaw partner and practice group chair, and trusted adviser to CEOs and business leadership teams. He advises clients on complex commercial and corporate transactions, bringing an in-house mindset informed by deep experience supporting business growth, capital formation, and investor relationships.

Prior to joining OGC, Mike served as General Counsel of an international venture capital firm with holdings in cybersecurity, cloud computing, nuclear energy, and the “new space” industry. In that role, he oversaw the full legal lifecycle of the firm’s operations, including fund formation, onboarding capital, investment and sale transactions, and compliance with U.S., U.K., Luxembourg, and Cayman Islands financial regulatory requirements. He also handled employment matters and day-to-day legal issues for the firm and several of its portfolio companies, working closely with the investment, investor relations, accounting, and fund finance teams.

Earlier in his career, Mike was a Partner and Chair of the Communications practice group at Davis Wright Tremaine LLP, an AmLaw 100 firm, where he advised telecommunications, internet, and technology companies on rapidly evolving business and regulatory frameworks.

As a technology lawyer, Mike has represented the world’s leading technology and communications companies, and many smaller firms, on hundreds of agreements involving cloud services, cybersecurity, software licensing, SaaS, technology integration, consulting, and manufacturing. Notable matters include managing the nation-wide roll-out of the leading cable operator’s VoIP service offering, supporting the expansion of that same provider’s back-office operation into a wholesale service offering, advising on the building and management of data centers, and the development of consumer-facing products such as smartwatches and virtual reality headsets.

While serving as practice group chair, Mike led the strategic revitalization of his group by recruiting and mentoring new lawyers, strengthening collaboration, and improving productivity and morale — experience that continues to inform his leadership and advisory approach.

Mike’s regulatory experience spans broadband, net neutrality and digital discrimination, telecommunications competition, universal service, wireless services, national security, foreign ownership, transfers of control, and online content regulation. Mike also represented clients in high-stakes, precedent-setting proceedings before the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), trial and appellate courts, and state public utility commissions around the country, including appearances before every state commission.

Mike began his legal career as a law clerk to a federal judge in Puerto Rico and as a litigation associate at Sidley Austin. He earned his J.D. from the University of Wisconsin Law School and a B.A. from Northwestern University.

Outside of his legal practice, Mike plays guitar, serves in leadership roles at his synagogue, tends an expansive garden, follows baseball closely, and enjoys traveling with his wife — often to visit their adult children.
