David Blackwood serves as Senior Vice President of Business Development for OGC, leading new client development on a firmwide basis. He brings over 30 years of experience as general counsel to privately held companies across a range of industries, with particular depth in consumer products, e-commerce, and software. David helped lead OGC’s expansion into the West Coast market, building a thriving client portfolio across industries and stages of growth.

Before joining OGC, David was General Counsel of McGladrey Capital Markets in Costa Mesa, California, for over a decade, where he represented the company and its subsidiaries in numerous M&A and other capital markets transactions across the U.S., Canada, and Europe. He also served as Assistant General Counsel of RSM McGladrey, a top-five accounting firm, handling nationwide employment and litigation matters.

Prior to that, David was General Counsel of Canon Computer Systems, the computer peripherals arm of Canon USA, where he built and led the company’s legal function and helped grow the business from a startup into a well-established company with $1.4 billion in revenue.

David began his legal career in private practice in New York City, first at Thacher Proffitt & Wood and later at the New York offices of Squire Sanders and Dorsey & Whitney, where he maintained a broad-based corporate practice focused primarily on outside general counsel services, as well as a variety of debt and equity transactions.

David served for many years on the Board of Directors of the Association of Corporate Counsel’s Southern California Chapter and was Co-Chair of the Orange County Bar Association’s Corporate Counsel Section. He remains involved with several local charities.

As a native Philadelphian, David has a lifelong fondness for cheesesteaks, roast pork sandwiches, and scrapple. He lives in Irvine, California, with his wife — their three children now grown and launched into their own careers — and enjoys international travel, hiking, photography, music, and, of course, cooking and eating.
